Every Entrepreneur Has A Story Worth Telling,
But Telling It Well Takes Practice.

Tuesday, July 28

Spark Thomasville Executive Director
That's why Spark Thomasville was honored to welcome Felicia Hunter, DTM, of Rose City Toastmasters, as a featured speaker during our Application Prep Workshop Series for entrepreneurs interested in applying to our upcoming 12-Week Signature Entrepreneur Training and Coaching Program.

Meet Felicia Hunter, DTM
Felicia serves as Registrar for Coastal Plains High School, a blended virtual and evening high school that
helps students complete their education through flexible learning.
Long before she earned her Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) designation, the highest educational and leadership distinction awarded by Toastmasters International, she simply wanted to become a better communicator herself.
After reading about Toastmasters in the newspaper in 2015, she attended her first meeting. What began as curiosity grew into years of leadership, mentorship, service, and a passion for helping others discover the confidence to use their own voice.
Today, whether she's supporting students, mentoring fellow Toastmasters, or encouraging entrepreneurs, her mission remains the same: helping people become stronger communicators and stronger leaders.
Words Matter
As Felicia shared with our entrepreneurs,
"Words matter. The way you say something can make the difference between opening a conversation and closing a door."
Why Communication Matters at Spark
Every Tuesday as part of the 12-Week Signature Training, Spark entrepreneurs do something that many business owners and most people fear, they stand up and speak.
Each week, they present a different section of the business plan they developed the week before, strengthening their ability to explain their business, answer questions, and communicate their vision. By the time they step onto the Spark Tank stage, they aren't giving their first pitch, they're celebrating twelve weeks of growth.
That's why Felicia's message resonated so deeply with our entrepreneurs. Communication isn't simply a presentation skill, it's a business skill.
Felicia's Five Communication Tips for Entrepreneurs
1. Be Authentic
People connect with people, not perfection. Your experiences, passion, and purpose are what make your business memorable.
2. Know Your Audience
Before you speak, think about who you're speaking to. Understanding your audience helps you connect your message to what matters most to them.
3. Remember the Six Ps
Felicia's favorite reminder is simple:
Proper Prior Preparation Prevents Poor Performance.
Practice your presentation. Anticipate questions. Preparation builds confidence.
4. Make Your Message Come Alive
Use vocal variety, purposeful hand gestures, and strong vocabulary to keep your audience engaged. Felicia also recommends recording yourself so you can experience your presentation from your audience's perspective and continue improving.
5. Listen, Learn, and Lead
Great communication isn't just about speaking.
It's about listening, choosing your words carefully, learning from experienced leaders, and serving others well.
