There are moments we look for in every Spark conversation.

Moments when the focus shifts from inspiration to preparation… from ideas to the structure that sustains them.

This week, we’ve been sharing conversations with leaders who are helping entrepreneurs move from vision to legacy.

As we approach the CEO Success Summit, I wanted to share one final reflection from my conversation with Ava O'Neal Wilson.

Because when Ava talks about building successful businesses, she doesn’t start with marketing or branding.

She starts with the numbers.

And more importantly, she starts with understanding them.

For more than two decades, Ava has worked behind the scenes, helping businesses make sense of one of the most intimidating parts of entrepreneurship: financial management.

As the owner of O'Neal's Consulting and Training Services, she has spent over 24 years providing accounting services and business guidance to clients across the United States.

But what quickly becomes clear when you speak with Ava is that accounting is only part of her mission.

Her real passion is helping leaders build sustainable businesses

CEO Success Summit 2026 — A hands-on working session for entrepreneurs and leaders hosted by Spark Thomasville and O'Neal's Consulting and Training.

Through her firm, Ava doesn’t just provide accounting services.

She provides capacity building.

That means equipping leaders with the knowledge and systems they need to confidently run their businesses, not just react to problems.

Her work supports:

• Small business owners learning to read financial statements

• Nonprofit CEOs strengthening operational oversight

• General managers gaining clarity around reporting and compliance

 • Entrepreneurs preparing their businesses to qualify for funding

Supporting city, county, and governmental entities to be audit-ready.

As Ava shared during our conversation:

“Understanding your financial statements isn’t optional. It’s foundational.”

Because when entrepreneurs understand their numbers, they make better decisions.

And better decisions lead to stronger businesses.

Why This Work Matters

This is exactly why Spark Thomasville prioritizes programming that strengthens both vision and structure.

Many entrepreneurs begin with passion and creativity.

But long-term success requires systems, financial literacy, and the right support network.

That’s where leaders like Ava step in, helping transform ideas into sustainable enterprises.

The Spark Thomasville Partnership

Ava’s collaboration with Spark began in 2024 after being introduced through community leadership connected with Albany Community Together.

At the time, Spark was working toward becoming a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), and Ava’s firm collaborated with Albany Community Together to provide underwriting support and to lead, while also leading financial capacity-building sessions for entrepreneurs.

Together, they launched business accelerator programming designed to help entrepreneurs:

• Understand financial statements

 • Implement QuickBooks instead of manual tracking

• Prepare documentation required for business loans

 • Strengthen operational infrastructure

What started as a partnership quickly evolved into an ongoing collaboration that continues to grow today.

And now, that collaboration is expanding into something even bigger.

What She’s Bringing to the CEO Success Summit

On March 14th, Ava will lead the CEO Success Summit, a full-day accelerator designed specifically for CEOs and executive leaders.

The summit is sponsored bythrough Spark Thomasville and intentionally designed to equip leaders with the tools they needis intentionally designed to equip leaders with the tools needed to build businesses that last.

Throughout the day, participants will explore:

Business Plan Models

How to structure a company not just for a startup, but for sustainability and legacy.

Business Essentials

Understanding financial statements, funding readiness, and operational foundations for growth.

Legendary Customer Service

How to build a revenue pipeline by delivering consistent, high-quality service experiences.

Ava emphasized something important during our conversation:

“Customer service doesn’t stop with the CEO. Your team is the extension of your brand.”

Which is why she encourages CEOs to bring members of their leadership team.

The Emotionally Intelligent CEO

A leadership session focused on managing teams with awareness, empathy, and emotional intelligence.

Grant Writing & Funding Readiness

A two-hour workshop providing frameworks for securing grants and preparing proposals for local, state, and federal funding.

Participants won’t just leave inspired.

They will leave with templates, tools, and strategies they can implement immediately.

Community Element: Collaboration Is a Non-Negotiable

One message Ava emphasized repeatedly during our conversation was the importance of collaboration.

In her words:

“Collaboration is critical. It’s non-negotiable.”

Entrepreneurs cannot scale their businesses in isolation.

They need:

• Mentors

• Technical assistance providers

• Financial institutions

• Community partners

• Peer networks

And sometimes, the most powerful opportunities happen simply because entrepreneurs share the same room.

Ava shared that in many of her classes, participants discover potential clients or partners simply through conversation.

That’s the power of community.

Ava O’Neal Wilson’s work reminds us that business success is rarely accidental.

It’s built on knowledge.

It’s strengthened through collaboration.

And it grows when leaders are equipped with the right tools and relationships.

Her journey reflects what happens when vision is supported with structure.
